Attendance on the Sabbath
Once the National School was established it became very much part of the nationwide pattern of schools. The regime reflected in this early charter of rules would seem to be much the same as that of any other National School.

The insistence in Rule 2 on attendence at Church and school on the Sabbath shows that Mr Jones' plea for a more relaxed attitude fell on deaf ears. Although the rules may seem strict to modern eyes they were a necessary guide for parents and children for whom full time education was a totally new experience.

Holiday for the harvest
The month long summer holiday for the "Corn Harvest" in this paragraph shows a recognition of the need in the poorer households for any extra income that the children could earn at this time..
