Walter de Winton died in 1878. A daughter, Gwendoline, was born not long before his death. His widow has remarried. Young Walter de Winton is presumably away at school. The household is reduced - perhaps because the family spends time in Shropshire, where Geoffrey Clegg-Hill is Deputy Lieutenant. One of the ladies maids is described as a ‘visitor’ - perhaps she is employed by Emily de Winton, who shows up again after 30 years, still unmarried. The men of the family seem to die young at that time; Walter Wilkins, who became de Winton, was 31 when he died. His son, Emily’s brother, was 46.
